No other sire need be mentioned this weekend except for our star CAPTAINTREACHEROUS! With seven winners – including a Group 1 quinella, Group 3, listed classic and an unbeaten 3YO – and leading sire of the NZB National Karaka Sale, it’s hard to go past him!
The GR1 Chariots of Fire at Menangle saw CAPTAIN sons Catch A Wave and Captain Ravishing battle it out for the Victorian horse to come out on top in 1:49.1. Earlier on the card, CAPTAIN‘s highest-earning offspring, Tough Tilly, went 1:51.1 to take out the GR3 Robin Dundee. Also in the money in Australia this weekend were Jilliby Willow at Tabcorp Park Melton, and Spirit King in 1:54.0 at Newcastle.
In New Zealand, Millwood Nike continued her unbeaten streak with a ninth win, in the Listed NZB Standardbreds 3YO Fillies Harness Millions Final. In that nine wins, she now records a second Listed race alongside a GR3 and three GR1 wins. 5YO Barbarossa also saluted at the Cambridge meeting, and at Addington, filly Cardwell Bay made it a NZ Friday treble for CAPTAIN.
At the opening day of the NZB Standardbred National Sales, held at Karaka, CAPTAIN took the title of leading sire. The top two lots were his progeny – $300,000 filly from Goodlookinggirl and $270,000 colt from Elle Mac – while his average was over $144,000. More of his sons and daughters go through the Christchurch sales, before the Nutrien series kicks off in Sydney on March 5.
Of our past sires, CAPTAIN‘s own sire SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE led the list, also with seven winners – Parabellum, Surf Ace, Ripp, Turquoise Stride, My Secret Beach, Wheres Our Money & Pebble Sands. FOUR STARZZZ SHARK recorded a treble (Hanover Starzzz, Filly Thirteen & Asterism) while WESTERN TERROR took a double (Kolski & Yesnomaybeso). There were also winners for BETTING LINE (Soho Seraphine in an Oaks heat), WELL SAID (Glenledi Chief) and ARTSPEAK (Talks Up A Storm).
