The yearling sale season for 2023 is now complete and we’ve had some exciting results across Australasia for our world class sires. Heading the list, naturally, is CAPTAINTREACHEROUS, whose progeny were expected to do well but even those high expectations were surpassed! Across the Auckland, Christchurch, Sydney, Gold Coast & Melbourne sales, 37 CAPTAINTREACHEROUS lots were sent through the ring for an average of $97,135 and with three topping their respective sales. At the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka sale, CAPTAIN lots were first and second, with the $300,000 Goodlookinggirl filly heading the list ahead of the Elle Mac colt. He repeated the effort in Sydney with the top two colts by CAPTAIN – Return To Me knocked down for $200,000 and Senora Rapido for $160,000. A fitting finale to a season that saw his progeny fetch a total of $3,594,000 was the Melbourne sale where again he took the top two results overall led by an Australian record of $270,000, demanded by a colt (pictured) prepared by Shannon & Meaghan Nixon from their champion Courage Under Fire mare, Carlas Pixel. Second on the pacing table was another colt from a rising star producing mare in Bamako Mali.
Overall we had seven sires – Captaintreacherous, Stay Hungry, Betting Line, Well Said, Heston Blue Chip, Rocknroll Hanover and Somebeachsomewhere – represented at eleven sales across New Zealand and Australia, the four Nutrien sales, two APG, and individual sales in Redcliffe, Tasmania and South Australia. The overall average for lots by our sires was $55,142. STAY HUNGRY produced the top lots at the Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sale ($40,000) and the Southern Stars Yearling Sale in Adelaide ($20,000), and the 3rd highest at Nutrien’s Sunshine Stars sale on the Gold Coast with the Ourark filly bringing in $75,000. Overall STAY HUNGRY‘s average for the sales was an impressive debut of $32,452. BETTING LINE‘s top lot was also at the Gold Coast Nutrien sale, with a colt out of 2022 Australian Broodmare of the Year, Lady Euthena, fetching $62,500. Congratulations to all the breeders and consigners and we look forward to working with you all again this coming breeding season when producing your 2026 sales stock.
