STAY HUNGRY quinellas were the trend across the globe this weekend! At Wagga it was two-year-old colt Fasting (pictured, bred by V & B Hancock and M Allamby) winning in a sizzling 1:53.2 ahead of fellow HUNGRY son, Sharp Interest while at Harrah’s Philadelphia in the US, Armarda Hanover took a leg of the Liberty Bell for 3YO C&G in 1:51.1 over De La Hoya Hanover.
CAPTAINTREACHEROUS had another blinder in both hemispheres. Locally Treacherous Baby (B & C Whitelock) took her earnings to $97,000 by dead heating in the Hilarious Guest 3YO Fillies Classic at Addington where her fellow three-year-old Renegade (Breckon Farms) posted a fourth win to move to $60,000 in the bank. In the two-year-old ranks it was Captain Sampson (J & J Davies) continuing his awesome form by taking his fourth win from just five starts at Alexandra Park.
In the older age groups of CAPTAIN progeny, Captains Knock (John Rutter) was a standout with $464,000 in the bank after stopping the Menangle clock at 1:49.7 to win his NSW Breeders Challenge 4YO E&G Semi Final ahead of Mick Danger. Mare Jilliby Willow (L Thompson & T Board) also continued her quiet journey up the list of his top earners, topping $134,000 with a win at Melton while at that track, Captain Maastricht (the late John Munnerley) put 20m on rivals in 1:54.5 to take his second win in a row. At Albion Park, it was a 1:55.3 time that won the day for mare Majic Moment (WDC03 + D Neal) while fellow mare Goodtime Libby (Alex Smith, Russ Woods + Gibson Family Trust) took a third victory at Cranbourne.
The North American action is really hotting up too, with two CAPTAINTREACHEROUS colts taking eliminations of the Breeders Crown at The Meadowlands – three-year-old star Captain Albano (in 1:48.1 with Captain Luke in second) and two-year-old Captain Optimistic (1:49). A three-year-old Liberty Bell leg was taken in 1:49.4 at Freehold by Vengeance Bluechip and at Freehold, Daily Double Deo won the $70,000 final of the 2YO Fillies New Jersey Sires Stakes.
Of our past sires this weekend, BETTING LINE took a treble (Lulu Lucifer, Lambro Mach & Maginot Line), WESTERN TERROR a double (Im Alrite & Skippers Swan Song) with winners for each of ARTSPEAK (Jiggle Art), ROCKNROLL HANOVER (Rock Or Bust) and WELL SAID (Machane Said).
